Conservatives win ...

... in Canada. While Stephen Harper may not get the majority he wanted, his party has increased its number of seats, which would indicate, despite the National Post sour comments that more Canadians want to press forward with conservative reforms than otherwise.

Could it be that our own Conservative Party, not to mention John McCain and other Republican Representatives and Senators are playing it wrong? Surely not.

I'm Canadian, young (and have been a follower of EU Referendum and this blog for a while now) and pretty delighted with the election result. What I also find encouraging is that people in my own riding, which is probably the most inert, stagnant, monolithically Liberal electoral district in the world (which the Liberals still hung onto, though not with the 75% plus support they used to get as a matter of course), seem to be moving somewhat to the right and are impressed with Harper despite the left wing's attempts at panic mongering. I hope this will keep up and even grow in future.

Hi Rebecca,

Good to hear from you. The Canadian result is cheering in an otherwise bleak time, though I am not as despondent about the American election as some people and think that the likes of NYT may be celebrating too soon.

Way to go, Canada! I hope it seeps down here to the lower 48. While I am optimistic about a McCain/Palin win, please send some of your mojo down south.

Thank you. :)

The best I can do, Maranna, is to say that I don't think McCain's chances are as bad as the media makes out. And even they slip up sometimes. But I am glad you are optimistic. You are there, after all.
